DISTRIBUTION
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
This program is provided as SHAREWARE.
This implies that if a user finds the program useful, he/she is
obligated to pay a one-time fee to the authors of the program.
If the user finds the program useless (not likely, I hope), he
is obligated to delete it and all related files within a
reasonable amount of time.
Note: Portions of this program have been disabled or not included
in the distribution to protect the interests of the authors,
and to promote registration.
This program is not to be included with any commercial or
non-commercial package or collection without the written
permission of the authors.
The shareware fee for Scene Manager is 20 US Dollars. ($20)
This one-time fee gets the user the latest registered version
with many extra features, (listed in DESCRIPTION section) plus
the piece of mind of supporting a couple of your fellow Lightwave
fans and starving programmers.

DISCLAIMER
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
In no way are the authors, or any company formed therein in any way
reponsible for any data or monetary loss brought on by the use or
misuse of this program. It has been developed and tested for ~10 months
as part of the commercial package "Plantation" written by the same
authors. We felt that this program had uses beyond the scope of that
product alone, and decided the Lightwave community might benefit
from it's capabilities.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
DESCRIPTION
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scene Manager is a multi-purpose utility for manipulating scenes created
by Lightwave 3D. It can move and update scenes around a network, or
offline, as well as create archives containing all components needed to
render it. These archives can be undone on your PC, SGI, Raptor3, Mac,
or whatever Lightwave is ultimately released for with or without
the use of a native version of Scene Manager.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
LIMITATIONS OF UNREGISTERED VERSION
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) The unregistered version only supports archiving in the LhA format.
It does NOT support de-archiving (restoring).
LhA is not included in the archive, but is available from Aminet,
Fred Fish, or your local BBS or user group. I highly suggest also
registering LhA, as it is by far the best archiver available for the
Amiga thus far. (Although I hear that LHX is nice.)
The registered version features a customizable compression scheme. All
that is required is the command line option definition for whatever
archiver you wish to use (and the binary for said archiver).
It also supports splitting the archives into disk-sized parts, for
transfer by that method. DD & HD floppies, SyQuest, and Bernoulli
disks are all supported in any format you have the drivers for.
I.E. CrossMAC, CrossDOS...
Current tested archivers include (more can be added instantly):
.LHA (because it's the Amiga standard)
.ZIP (for transfer to PC's)
.LHX (because it's supposedly faster and more efficient)
.ZOO, .ARC (for old times' sake)
2) The unregistered version will not allow you to process more than one
scene at a time. Naturally, the registered version has no such
limitations.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
FUTURE
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am open for suggestions! A Windows version is definately planned, but
it's distribution all depends on the number of registrations we receive.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
INSTALLATION
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just drag the Scene_Manager icon wherever you wish.
It only requires that you have OS2.0+ installed.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
USAGE
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Upon first running Scene Manager, the program will ask you to locate
the default "3D" drawer of your host machine. The 3D drawer is part
of Lightwave and contains, among others, the "Scenes", "Objects", and
"Images" drawers. It is usually located in a directory called "Toaster"
on your hard disk. Enter the "3D" drawer itself, but do not enter any
drawers therein, Scene Manager will take care of this. The program will
then ask you where you wish to store scene archives. This can be any
valid AmigaDOS path. The program will save these locations for further
reference, though you may change it with the "Paths" menu option in the
"Preferences" menu.
The "Scenes" listview featured at the top left side of the GUI displays
the scenes you have currently selected to process. The scenes section of
the interface features two buttons under the listview.
ADD Add a scene or scenes to be moved to the list.
Multiple scenes can be selected with a "Shift-Click".
REMOVE Remove the currently selected scene from the list.
The "Destinations" listview featured at the top right side of the
interface displays a list of drawers you wish to move the the scenes
into. This is where you specify which clients will receive the
scenes you are moving. The destinations section of the interface
also features two buttons under it's listview.
ADD Add a destination to the list. This allows you to
build the list of clients you wish to recieve scenes.
Locate each client's "3D" drawer using the file
requester that appears. As when selecting the default
"3D" drawer the first time Scene Manager is run, locate
the "3D" drawer on each client.
REMOVE Removes a client from the list.
Scene Manager conveys its current status in the status list, located
on the bottom left of the interface, with the most recent messages at
the top of the list. The progress of scene manager is displayed here.
The three "cycle" options located on the bottom right of the interface
control the various decisions Scene Manager will make upon finding pre-
existing files already located on the destination machine. By manipulating
the cycle gadgets, you can instruct Scene Manager to either replace the
existing components, or skip them and leave the existing ones alone.
Lastly, the two buttons in the bottom right of the interface allow you
to begin the Scene Manager operation. The "Program Mode" cycle allows
you to change the programs operation, while the "Execute" button launches
the selected task.
COPY Moves all the scenes you specified, including all their objects
and images (while abiding by the options you selected in the
cycle gadgets above it)
UPDATE Only moves the components that have been modified since the
last movement of the scene. This is useful when a large scene
has had small revisions and needn't be totally redistributed.
This option relies on the proper operation of the battery-backed
clock/calendar of your Amiga's, so make sure they're operational and
set correctly. Details on this procedure can be found in your
Amiga's user manual.
ARCHIVE This option creates an archive named after the scene or scenes
specified and puts all the objects and images required by the
scene into it.
RESTORE This option extracts all the components from the selected archive
and copies them into the places specified in the destinations
listview.
/* Disabled for unregistered version */
DELETE This option will delete a scene and all related components from
your drive. BE CAREFUL, as many files are often used by other
scenes, (such as FractalReflections, etc.) and they will all
be wiped out as well. You have been warned.
Scene Manager is provided as a standard mechanism to move scenes whose
components are located in standard locations. Scenes that have components
located outside the standard "3D" directory heirarchy may need to be pre-
loaded into Lightwave on the clients and the objects resaved, so they may
all be accessable when the time comes to render. Scenes whose components
were located in the standard heirarchy to begin with need no be resaved on
the new machine.
